Windows has been catching up with full throttle with the Android app market, Google Play Store, by introducing popular yet much needed apps in its OS ecosystem.

Some of the top free applications for the Windows Phone users include Instagram, the recently launched app for Windows Phones, followed by Xbox Video, Facebook, Kik Messenger and Xbox Music.

The top 2 ranks in the paid list are dominated by Facebook apps. Both these apps are known to be third party apps, which is followed by Cal, MoliPlayer Pro and Kirik Settings in top 5.

Free Applications

In the free list of applications for Windows Phones, a few changes were seen this week as a number of applications were introduced and updated in the market.

Instagram dominates the list for the second week in a row, by offering certain updates such as ability to tag other users, bug fixes and enhancements in the app. Facebook has however lost the second spot to Xbox Video, which was released this past week. While Kik Messenger has dropped by one position to the fourth spot, Xbox Music apps moves a rank above Pandora, leaving the later on the sixth spot, according to Win Beta.

Paid Applications

Some changes were also seen in the top-paid category. The top two spots were taken by two third-party Facebook apps, which are priced at $0.99 each. It has been speculated that these apps might be offering better functionality over the existing official Facebook app which is free-to-download.

In the list, users will also find Cal, the calendar app which was introduced recently and is priced at $1.99. The fourth and fifth spot were taken by MoliPlayer Pro and Kirik Settings app which are priced at $2.99 and $1.99 respectively.

New + Rising Applications

The new + rising category is led by Amtrak app followed by GoToMeeting, Zedge, Cal and Kirik Settings. Amtrak app by National Railroad Passenger Corporation enables the users to book tickets for travelling, check train statuses, get station information and more.

While GoToMeeting app keeps track of the user's schedule meetings, view slide presentations, design mocks and more, the Zedge app offers a wide range of wallpapers and different notification ringtones to users.

Best-Rated Applications

Flixter, Camera 360 and Sale Calculator are in the first and second spot respectively. While Flixter gives information about new movie releases, critics and trailers for latest movies, the Camera 360 app offers a wide range of clicking features with regular updates. Both apps are free-to-download.

All the apps and categories can be explored from the Windows Phone App market.
