Shooto Brazil, a Brazilian mixed martial arts (MMA) organisation announced a "Battle of the Sexes" fight which will happen on Dec. 20.

Brazilian promoter Andre Pederneiras plans on setting up a fight between a male and a female at the Shooto 45 event to be held in Rio de Janeiro, as reported by MMAFighting.com.

The said "Battle of the Sexes" fight will feature Emerson Falcao and Juliana Velasquez in a three-round bout at the bantamweight division. Both are fairly raw fighters.

Falcao has a professional record of 0 win and 1 loss. He fought Benny Black in the USC 2 - Upper Sport Combat 2 on April 19, 2013. He lost via submission with a rear-naked choke. The "Battle of the Sexes" fight, if finalised, will be Velasquez's first-ever professional bout.

Velasquez seemed confident that she will triumph over Falcao. "Andre Pederneinas came up with the idea," Velasquez told MMAFighting.com. "He asked Team Nogueira for a female fighter," she added. "And my team believes I'm ready," she said. It was the main reason why Velasquez she took up the challenge. "My expectations are the best, I'm well trained to get there and win," she concluded.

Velasquez appears really ready to take on Falcao. However, Falcao revealed on his Facebook page that he was injured and would not be able to fight until 2014. Nevertheless, Pederneinas said that Falcao should be able to fight on Friday evening.

The forthcoming fight between Falcao and Velasquez only sparks controversy, whether it is appropriate to give consent to a male vs. female fight. As mentioned prior, both Falcao and Velasquez are novice fighters. A lot of people are wondering if they will be able to take on a challenge as vicious as MMA.

At any rate, the male vs. female fight is still up for deliberation.

Osiris Maia, a member of the Brazilian MMA Confederation said that the regulating body of the Shooto events is still contemplating if they would agree to such fight.
