The original Tomb Raider has been released for iOS devices, and players of the popular franchise will get two additional levels, adding up to 15 hours of gameplay. The newly released game will see players taking on the lost city of Atlantis and Egypt's Pyramids.
"We've not messed about with it," players will get the "full, unedited, unadulterated experience" said developer Square Enix, The Verge reported.
The first game came out in 1996 for MS-DOS, PlayStation and Sega Saturn. The game boasts of 3D worlds and seamless real-times environment. Players can use Lara Croft's trademark double pistols to kill enemies as she explores tombs and other dangerous locations. She has to face enemies like bears, wolves, Atlantean centaurs and T-Rex.
The new game for iOS has touchscreen gameplay and reviews have described its controls as manageable. Users have also suggested that the game supports third-party iOS gamepads but the developer has not given any information on this. The game is available for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad at $0.99.
Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition for Xbox One and PlayStation 4
The upcoming Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition will have better graphics for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions. It will be a definitive improvement from its present PC version said Crystal Dynamics, who released a 2013 reboot of the game.
Scot Amos, executive producer at Crystal Dynamics, said during the Q&A at Eidos Forums that all in-game characters including Lara Croft will get a makeover where the company has worked on their geometry, textures and other aspects of characters. Croft will however have new "TressFX hair, new sub-surface scattering on skin, and overall new look."
He said the game will be making use of voice commands on consoles, as well as touch pad functionality in PlayStation 4's controller and Kinect functionality in Xbox One. He confirmed that, "And yes, gameplay in both versions is at full 1080p!"
Amos was asked about the upgrades in the game, "The amount of extra work - 3 studios and a full year of development - have pushed the boundaries beyond just TressFX and upgraded textures. We now have a new particle system, new lighting work and enhanced shadow-casters, tons of more visual storytelling elements (more debris, more details on walls, more density in the environment for vegetation), upgraded characters (Lara and main story NPCs), and we've also put all of the DLC materials into this version for PS4/Xbox One," he said.
"We are very happy with the PC version we released and felt these new additions and changes were something custom just for next-gen consoles at the moment," he added.
