Miss Philippines Bea Rose Santiago has been crowned Miss International 2013. She came as fifth titleholder from the Philippines after winning the title for the first time in 1979.
The Miss International 2013 coronation day was held at the Shinagawa Prince Hotel Hall in Tokyo, Japan on Dec. 17. During the Q and A round, each of the delegates was asked, "What would she do if she wins Miss International?"
Miss Philippines answered: "The whole world saw how my country suffered. One by one, other countries helped. You have opened my heart and eyes on what we can do to help each other. I will work to sustain the spirit of sympathy and spirit of hope. As long as we work together, there is hope."
Before the crowning moment, Santiago thanked the world for all the support they provided to the Philippines during the blitz of Typhoon Haiyan calling for global unity: "If I win the crown, I will help promote camaraderie among countries." Santiago dedicated her victory to her nation stating: "This is for the Philippines. I love you Philippines."
