Wigan Athletic manager Uwe Rosler is in discussions with Manchester United over taking Nick Powell on loan until the end of the season.

Powell made the move to United from Crewe in the 2012 summer and is touted for big things with the side as they look to build a new generation of stars under incoming manager David Moyes.

But as the manager settled in at Old Trafford this year he deemed it necessary to send the 19 year old to Wigan for more game time as he continues to develop his skills.

And incoming boss Rosler, who joined the club just nine days ago, has admitted that his side are hopeful they can keep Powell from United for the rest of the season.

"I contacted David Moyes at United two days ago to ask about Nick and we will be having a dialogue in the near future," he told reporters, via Sky Sports. "I want Nick to stay here until the end of the season."

Wigan are currently 14th in the Championship table but are eight points off the play-off spots as Christmas approaches, with a long season ahead as they aim to get back in the mix for the Premier League.

And if United are to agree to let them keep Powell for the rest of the season it could work well for both parties, with the teen currently displaying good form for the side having scored seven goals in 21 appearances so far.

David Moyes is no stranger to letting youngsters step up and have a chance though, with the manager finding Adnan Januzaj to be an important member of the first team this season and he could see Powell as ready to come back to Old Trafford and help the club in the middle of the park.
