Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 Get Android 4.3 I9300XXUGMK6 and N7100XXUEMK9 Test Firmware [How to Install]

Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 and Galaxy Note 2 GT-N7100 recently received two new Open Europe test firmwares, I9300XXUGMK6 and N7100XXUEMK9. These firmware have reportedly been leaked from Samsung's test labs during the development process.

Though the Galaxy S3 firmware is now officially available as Over-The-Air (OTA) update, it is still inaccessible via Samsung KIES or Odin flash tool. In other words, those who cannot wait for the official release of manual downloads via KIES software can proceed with our step-by-step guide given below for manually installing the new Open Europe test firmware on Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2.

Pre-requisites

1) Install USB Driver for Samsung Galaxy S3 to connect the phone to computer.

2) Enable USB Debugging Mode on phone to connect it with computer and use Android SDK with it. [Press Menu >> Settings>> Applications. Now browse and click the Development option then check USB Debugging Mode.]  

3) Back up important data and settings on the phone as the given procedure may wipe out all data on phone. It is recommended to backup data using custom recovery tools such as CWM or TWRP.

4) Ensure that the Galaxy S3 has at least 80% battery charge.

5) The device should be factory unlocked and not locked to a particular carrier.

6) The phone will lose custom ROM after installing the official firmware. Also, the custom recovery will be replaced by stock recovery.

7) The device will no longer have root access after official firmware is installed.

8) Android 4.3 XXUGMK6 official firmware works only with Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-I9300. As attempting to install the firmware on incorrect model may brick the device, verify the model number of Galaxy S3 by navigating to Settings >> About device >> Model number

How to Install Android 4.3 I9300XXUGMK6 Open Europe Test Firmware on Galaxy S3

Step-1: Download Android 4.3 Open Europe test firmware for Galaxy S3 to computer.

Download: I9300XXUGMK6_I9300OXAGMK6_OXA.zip

Step-2: Extract the downloaded firmware file to get a .tar.md5 file

Step-3:  Download Odin3 v3.09. Extract Odin zip to get Odin v3.09.exe 

Step-4: Run Odin3 v3.09.exe on computer    

Step-5: Restart the Galaxy S3 in Download Mode. To do so, first turn off the phone and wait for five to six seconds after the display is off. Press and hold Volume DownPower and Home buttons together until a warning screen appears. Then hit the Volume Up button to continue into Download Mode  

Step-6: Connect the phone to your computer using USB cable while it is still in Download Mode. On successful connection an Added message will appear in Odin and also one of the ID: COM boxes will turn blue with the COM port number.  

Note: If the Added message fails to appear, try another USB port located at the back of the computer. If Odin still fails to recognise the phone, then reinstall USB drivers. 

Step-7: Click the AP button in Odin and select

  • Add MODEM_I9300XXUGMK6_REV02_REV04_CL1413323.tar.md5via CP button
  • Add CSC_OXA_I9300OXAGMK6_2168382_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.md5 via CSC button

Step-8:  Verify Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time checkboxes are selected under Option section in Odin. Uncheck Re-Partition option.  

Step-9: Click the Start button in Odin to begin firmware installation which will take just a few minutes  

Step-10: PASS message with green background appears in Odin once the flashing is completed, and the phone will restart automatically. When the home screen appears, disconnect the USB cable connecting the phone to computer.

The Android 4.3 I9300XXUGMK6 Jelly Bean test firmware should now be installed and running on the Galaxy S3. Navigate to Settings >> About phone to verify the firmware installed on the phone.  

 How to Fix Bootloop Issue

If the device encounters any issue such as FC or Bootloop, after the firmware installation, then boot the phone in recovery mode. Press and hold Volume UpHome and Power buttons together. In recovery mode, perform data wiping task by selecting Wipe data/factory reset. Then reboot the phone by selecting reboot system now. NOTE: In recovery mode, use Volume keys to navigate between options and Power button to select desired option. Performing wiping task will erase all data including internal SD card.
