In recent times, it has become a norm for manufacturers to release companion mini models along with their flagship handsets.

Catching up with this trend is South Korean electronics giant LG, which according to new reports, is working on a mini variant of the popular LG G2 handset. If this rumour turns out to be true, then there is a good chance that the handset will be called LG G2 Mini.

The 'Mini' trend

Samsung came out with the S4 Mini and S3 Mini for those who wanted smaller versions of S3 and S4 flagship handsets. HTC did the same with its One handset, releasing a One Mini smartphone, apart from a larger One Max phablet. Even Sony is rumoured to come out with Xperia Z1s, which is a smaller version of its popular Xperia Z1 flagship handset.

Specifications

The rumoured handset from LG, despite being smaller in size, will pack most of the specifications seen on its larger, full-sized sibling, the G2. It is expected to house a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor and 2GB of RAM.

The LG G2 is famed for its rich Full HD 5.2 inch display which churns out a shocking 424 pixels per inch. The G2 Mini will use a smaller 4.7 inch display which will most probably offer details as rich as the screen on its larger sibling.

Launch Date

According to the rumour mill, the handset might be launched during the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show 2014, which will take place at Las Vegas.

Even though G2 just remains a rumour, it goes without saying that LG will have quite a few mobile products to launch at CES 2014.
