Trinamool Congress MP Derek O' Brien asked former SC judge AK Ganguly to step down on UN Human Rights Day and not 'mock the office'.
"Today is UN Human Rights Day. It's a travesty that Justice Ganguly continues as chief of the WBHRC. Sir, please don't mock your office," the TMC leader said on his Twitter handle.
O'Brien reiterated his stand on the sexual harassment case against justice Ganguly, who retired last year as an SC judge and is currently the chairman of West Bengal Human Rights Commission.
"It would be apt if Justice Ganguly chose UN Human Rights Day to step down as WBHRC chairman and cleanse his office. Violators can't be guardians," O'Brien added.
Shiv Sena spokesperson Sanjay Raut joined the chorus for Ganguly's resignation when he said, "He should read his previous judgement, in many of which he talks about ethics and morals. He should resign for ethics."
When asked to respond to the growing clamour for his resignation, the former justice said angrily, "I will not answer any question of yours. I will do whatever I have to", reported PTI.
He has denied the harassment charges levelled against by his former law intern but activists and politicians, including WB Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, have sought action against Ganguly after the inquiry panel set up by the apex court indicted him.
