Etienne Capoue could leave Tottenham Hotspur just six months after joining if Roma are successful in convincing the north London club to part with the defensive midfielder.

The 25-year-old has only been with Spurs since August but it seems he could be offered the chance to make a quick exit to a Roma side who have yet to lose a single league game this season and are competing to win the Serie A title.

The Italian club have a strong relationship with Tottenham technical director Franco Baldini and are hopeful that he will help them complete a deal for Capoue.

Roma boss Rudi Garcia is aware of the talent the Frenchman possesses having spent the majority of his managerial career in Ligue 1 where Capoue also made his name while representing Toulouse for more than five years.

Tottenham paid €11m to secure the midfielder's services in the summer but he has only made four league appearances after suffering an ankle injury early in September.

Spurs do have a host of central midfielders in their squad but Capoue will mainly be competing with Brazilian duo Sandro and Paulinho for a regular starting berth when he returns to full fitness.

However, it seems he could be offered the chance to play more regularly at Roma with Gazzetta dello Sport reporting that the team from the Italian capital are prepared to make an offer of €10m in January.

The final decision may well come down to Baldini and Villas-Boas who worked closely together over the course of the summer to identify potential targets and conclude transfers, including Capoue's own switch to White Hart Lane.

The France international may well feel as though he can get into the Tottenham side once he returns from injury but the chance to compete for major honours with Roma may also be an attractive option.
