The Vuzix M100 Smart Glasses, which is Google Glass' main competitor, is now available for preorder for $1,000. Compared to the price of a Google Glass developer or Explorer edition which is reportedly $1,500 or around £985 or $1,449 AUD, the Vuzix M100 Smart Glasses is relatively cheaper.

Vuzix President Paul Travers spoke about the Vuzix technology. Check out the video above.

According to Vuzix, the Vuzix M100 Smart Glasses started shipping on Dec. 3, 2013. The company has already sent out developer and preorder units of its M100 Smart Glasses. The Vuzix shipments are expected to go out in the latter part of Dec. 2013, within two to four weeks, to new customers. Vuzix Smart Glasses will be available commercially before Google Glass because it is still in beta mode and might only be released in 2014.

Interested Vuzix customers are advised to order from the nearest Vuzix distribution centre (U.S., Europe and Japan) to save on shipping costs as well as time. Click HERE to locate the Vuzix distribution centre that is nearest to your area.

"The time for wearable computing devices is upon us, and we believe what Vuzix offers is the most complete and innovative in the enterprise-based smart glasses, wearable technology category," said Travers in an interview with SAP Global Vice President and Enterprise Operations Management Paul Boris.

"Due to strong demand, last spring Vuzix sold out of our gold developer kits, so after many months of working with our first developers and initial hardware, we have incorporated numerous enhancements to the M100," he added.
