Daniel Agger has revealed that he would leave Anfield January if he fails to feature regularly for Liverpool.
The 28-year-old was subjected to interest from Barcelona in the summer as the Catalan club even made an approach in bringing him to Camp Nou. The Dane rejected an offer to join the Spanish champions and committed his future to the Merseyside club.
Brendan Rodgers signed Kolo Toure as a replacement for Jamie Carragher while further strengthened the Reds' back four by adding Mamadou Sakho to the squad. Martin Skrtel was expected to leave in the summer, but continued at Anfield and has given the nod ahead of Agger in Liverpool's back four.
"If I don't play, and if the manager doesn't think I am good enough, that could make me leave Liverpool. I'm here to play football, nothing else. So if I don't play football, then I don't want to be here anymore," Agger said, as quoted in the Telegraph.
The Danish centre-back has not started for the Anfield club since their 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Southampton. Agger had earlier admitted to impress Rodgers during the training to make his way into the playing XI.
However, Agger has made only one appearance for the Reds. He came on as a substitute during Liverpool's 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace.
Skrtel, who was believed to be offloaded in the summer has fought back to prove his worth for the Reds. He has been a key figure in Liverpool's defence this season. Rodgers has admitted the Slovakian's recent improvement in the form has forced Agger to be dropped to the bench.
"I've always tried to show my fairness with players. People say 'you don't like this player' or 'you don't like that player' but it's about performance level," said Rodgers.
"If you are playing well you'll play. If you're not you'll be in and out of the team. I've got an international captain [Agger] sitting on the bench but that's because I like to think I'm fair and if people are playing well they play. Martin has been outstanding."
"I think in the run of games he's had he's gained confidence and that's meant I've acknowledged and recognised that he's playing at a really good level," Liverpool manager concluded.
