Miss Universe-Australia 2013 Olivia Wells is an epitome of a modern beauty queen.
The latest Australian name reigning in the international beauty pageant circuit is Wells who was a nerdy girl at school dreaming to make a difference.

The first year medicine student is determined to work as a surgeon in third world countries. She revealed that she was overwhelmed by her victory.
"I will defer my studies for a year, and then get straight back into it next year. I might cop flak for the rest of my working life as being the surgeon who was a pageant queen. But you know what, why are they mutually exclusive? They really shouldn't be," she said after winning the title, as quoted by news.com.au.
Wells, 19, said her passion is working in underdeveloped nations after volunteering in Tonga and a disabled orphanage in Vietnam.
"Honestly, I don't think working in the back blocks of a third world country they're going to care that I was a pageant queen. They're going to care that they're getting basic medical attention," she added, according to the same report.
Wells is a committed charity worker and a food enthusiast who writes a blog, "The Procrasti-baker." She is obsessed with owls and a diehard fan of "Les Miserables."
She has postponed her studies to pursue the demands of the competitive beauty circuit, and she's used to being asked why.
Wells, the Melbourne teenager, recognised that the only thing more constant than the Miss Universe contest is the criticism and controversies that surrounds it.
"People have this perception that all beauty queens are airheads and medical students are nerds who sit in their rooms and study all day. But the two are not mutually exclusive," she said in an interview in the August issue of The Weekly, according to a NineMSN report.
"I like to study, but I also like to dress up. I think, in life, rounding is the most important thing," she added.
Wells has worked in Tongan hospitals and volunteered to tutor school-age refugees in suburban Melbourne. She has already carved a niche for herself in a well-formed career in her 19 years.
She also knows how to rock an evening gown and credibly drive out the perception that pageants are not the exclusive territory of the professionally vapid and asserts her commitment to philanthropy and her studies qualify her for the title of Miss Universe.
She acknowledges that she has to follow the path of predecessors Rachael Finch, Jesinta Campbell and Jennifer Hawkins, and revealed what she hopes to achieve something in the contest.
"I want to do everyone proud," she said in an interview with news editor Bryce Corbett.
"I want to do myself proud, I want to do Australia proud. I'm certainly not going into this competition without the idea of wanting to win it," she explained.
Wells respects other people's opinion. Do you think Miss Universe-Australia Olivia Wells could win the coveted crown?
