RIP Lou Reed was the news that shocked the music industry this morning as the legendary Velvet Underground lead singer reportedly passed away at 71.
According to The Guardian, the music icon had been suffering from a liver disease even when he had his transplant during the early part of 2013. After the said announcement, various condoling messages and tributes were posted over social media sites like Facebook and Twitter.
Lou Reed, whose band the Velvet Underground became one of the most influential in rock by fusing art and music in collaboration with artist Andy Warhol in 1960s New York, died on October 27, 2013 at the age of 71, Rolling Stone reported.
Mirror UK said that the songwriter and guitarist's career lasted for more than 50 years and was awarded GQ's Inspiration Award. He's one of the major movers and shapers of the 60s generation due to his deep style of writing songs, not to mention his utterly distinct voice.

Clashmusic.com stated in one article that the icon's parents once let their son go through electroshock therapy thrice a week. The reason? To cure his tendencies of homosexuality. Hence, his song 'Kill Your Sons' was made.
When he quit the band, he landed a job at his dad's tax accounting company as a typist. He earned $40 every week which lasted for about a year before signing up with RCA to release his solo album.
Sends a Roadie as Replacement
There have been some rumours before that when he did not want to attend any interviews, he often sends a roadie as replacement which no one ever notices.
It was in 2001 when the Lou Reed death hoax once spread around after a fake news agency claimed he was found dead due to an overdose on Demerol. It was later discovered to have been just a hoax email.

In Mirror UK's own list of Lou Reed trivia, it was revealed that the reason he wore sunglasses on stage is because he could not stand the view of numerous audiences.
