Akshay Kumar's newly released film "Boss" has failed to cross the ₹50-crore mark in its long extended first week at the domestic box office.

The film has grossed in around ₹49.3 crore in nine days of its theatrical run in more than 3,000 screens in India.
The first week (nine days) breakup of "Boss" is: Wednesday ₹12.75 crore, Thursday ₹8 crore, Friday ₹6 crore, Saturday ₹6 crore, Sunday ₹7.75 crore, Monday ₹2.75 crore, Tuesday ₹2.3 crore, Wednesday ₹2 crore and Thursday ₹1.75 crore.
Anthony D'Souza's directorial project was expected to fetch some big figures but failed to entertain audiences during the first week. It remains to be seen if "Boss" will turn out to be a box office dud.
Even though "Boss" is on a losing streak, it has shattered the lifetime collection records of "Kai Po Che" and "Himmatwala" which had collected ₹48 crore and ₹47 crore, respectively.
Meanwhile, Hansal Mehta's film "Shahid" also completed its first week of theatrical run in India with collections at ₹3.15 crore.
The film raked in ₹45 lakh on the its first day and ₹2.05 crore in the first weekend. Even though collections were dull, the low production cost turned out to be a saving grace for the film's makers.
"Shahid's word of mouth was good but the numbers are still low and with seven films coming out next week and Krrish 3 releasing the week after, it will be very difficult for the film to survive. It has a very low budget and has been acquired at a very low cost - that's the only silver lining," Hindustan Times quoted trade analyst Taran Adarsh as saying.
