Los Angeles County District Attorney dropped the sexual assault charges against "The Voice" judge Cee Lo Green due to lack of sufficient evidence.
Cee Lo Green Cleared Of Sexual Assault Charges But Faces Use of Ecstasy Charges
Last year, a woman accused "The Voice" judge Cee Lo Green of drugging her with ecstasy while on a date and later sexually assaulting her. Throughout the allegations and second investigation, Cee Lo maintained he was innocent and pleaded not guilty.
Cee Lo was cleared of the sexual assault charges Monday but still faces a felony charge of furnishing ecstasy.
"Law enforcement sources tell us, authorities had problems with the woman's story, one of which was that she and Cee Lo had been dating for months and had already been intimate," TMZ reports.
"The woman claimed to have a tape recording of Cee Lo talking about the incident. Although our sources say Cee Lo never said anything about slipping ecstasy in her drink, he did reference the drug," TMZ reports. "It appears the D.A. views the tape as a confession to drug use thus the charge.
Los Angeles Times confirmed that the singer was charged with slipping ecstasy to a 33-year-old woman while the two were dining at a downtown Los Angeles restaurant in July 2012 and then returned to her hotel room with her.
"It is clear from the evidence that the suspect administered a controlled substance to wit ecstasy to the victim ... What is less clear is the actual condition of the victim at the time of sexual intercourse," prosecutors said in a document formally rejecting the rape charge.
The singer's received bail at $30,000 and is due back in court on 20 November for a preliminary hearing setting.
