Ross Brawn is considering leaving Formula One at the end of the current season after a disappointing campaign with Mercedes has left his future at the team in the balance.
The 58 year old designer has enjoyed an incredible career within the sport, with Brawn cars winning more than 100 races and collecting 16 constructors and drivers world championships.
His five years at Ferrari saw Michael Schumacher completely dominate the sport before he eventually saved Honda by creating Brawn Racing who won the world title in 2009 with Jenson Button at the helm.
However, after selling the operation to Mercedes it has been a difficult time and their F1 chairman Niki Lauda has admitted that he is unsure whether Brawn will remain with the team.
"It's down to him now," said Lauda, as reported in the Mirror. "I'd say it's 50-50. We have had some small problems in the team in the past but everything is sorted now.
"It's all agreed between him and Paddy and everyone else. He's No.1. I have tried to persuade him to stay. I want him to stay. We will talk again at the end of the season."
Brawn's place at the team came under question when Paddy Lowe arrived from McLaren but Mercedes agreed to let him remain as the technical number one, with Lewis Hamilton making it clear he wanted him to remain at the team.
The Briton had been linked with a possible switch to McLaren but they revealed that they have signed Peter Prodromou from Red Bull.
The Mirror believe that Brawn may well now consider retiring at the end of the current season, though this would have nothing to do with health issues after he missed the Spanish grand prix last year after being diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat.
Brawn made it clear that there were no lasting concerns but it seems his memorable spell in the sport could well be coming to an end.
