"Ram-leela" star Deepika Padukone apparently had luck on her side, when she managed to evade public embarrassment at a recent event in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
The actress was in the city to attend a garba and dandiya function for the promotion of her upcoming film "Ram-leela" which also stars Ranveer Singh. She would have expected a grand welcome, but little did she know that a group of people were waiting on the grounds to hurl eggs and tomatoes at her.
The group, who were protesting against the film's content, stalled their attack after they were informed that filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali has agreed to delete the objectionable content from the film.
"Members of the Jadeja and the Rabari community were set to attack the actress as well as the organisers at the venue. The situation got tense but finally they backed down after they were told that the apparently offensive portions from the film had been re-dubbed," Mid-Day quoted a source as saying.
According to reports, Bhansali had already decided to remove the scenes but it was not communicated to the protestors present in the ground.
Last week, Ahmedabad police detained over 40 people from the Rajput community who staged a protest against Deepika when she was at the airport. They were later released.
The protestors alleged demanded a ban on the release of the film saying it "misrepresented" their community. A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was also filed in the Gujarat High Court seeking a ban on the film's release in Gujarat. [Read the report here]
The protests in the city haven't dampened Deepika's excitement for her upcoming film. "Thank you Ahmedabad for all the love..." she had tweeted.
