Adrian Peterson, who plays for the National Football League's Minnesota Vikings, is currently mourning over his 2-year-old son's death.
On Friday, TMZ reported that Peterson's 2-year-old son Adrian Peterson was allegedly brutally beaten by the boyfriend of the child's mother. TMZ confirmed that the wounded son is indeed Adrian's son, but he is not Adrian Peterson Jr., the child that the NFL star has always been pictured with.
The suspect, 27-year-old Joseph Patterson, has been taken to police custody and charged with battery of an infant and aggravated felony assault. As reported by TMZ, emergency personnel rushed to the apartment where Peterson's son resides. They found the child unresponsive, and he was immediately brought to the nearest hospital. Later on, it was found out that the child has suffered severe head injuries due to abuse.
The poor child was on life support until Thursday. However, his condition never got better and the family decided to take off the breathing apparatus off the child, and he eventually died.
The child's mother decided to donate the organs to those people in need.
The reasons behind the battery and beating were not made clear. The suspect already appeared in court and a bond amounting to $750,000 was set on his head.
The Vikings' running back thanked everyone who has expressed concern and sympathy through Twitter. "Thank you to my family, my fans, and fans of other teams for their support," Peterson tweeted. "The NFL is a fraternity of brothers and I am thankful for the tweets, phone calls, and text messages from my fellow players," Peterson said.
Despite that misfortune and heartbreak that Peterson and his family are facing right now because of his son's death, he will continue to play for the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.
"We are currently not posting photos of my son who passed away, thank you for your understanding," Peterson also tweeted.
We hope that Peterson and his family get through this tough time and that justice will be served to whoever is responsible for taking away the poor child's innocent life. It is just hard to imagine what kind people can do such thing to little children.
