Roger Federer has parted ways with Coach Paul Annacone, BBC UK reported. Federer and Annacone started their partnership in Aug 28, 2010 so they were together for more than three years. He has won 13 titles with Annacone.
However, the 32-year-old Swiss tennis player dropped to the seventh position in the world rankings on Monday, his lowest ranking since October 2002.There were a lot of people who thought that Federer's performance in 2013 is really in a constant decline.
Annacone previously worked for tennis legend Pete Sampras from February 1995 until Sampras' retirement in 2002. Annacone also coached Tim Henman since 2003 until Henman's career ended in 2007.
"After a terrific three and a half years of working together, Paul and I have decided to move on to the next chapter in our professional lives," Federer posted on his Web site. "When we started together, we had a vision of a three-year plan to win another Grand Slam title and get back to the number one ranking," he said. "Along with many other goals and great memories, these two main goals were achieved," he added.
Federer has won two straight year-end championship titles in 2010 and 2011 with Annacone as his coach. He has also ranked World No 1 and has won his seventh Wimbledon Championship title.
The year 2013 has been a tough year for Federer, and it was the first time that he failed to reach a Grand Slam since 2002. He has also suffered from a bad back and experimented with different racket heads. He was just not his same old self.
"After numerous conversations culminating the end of our most recent training block, Paul and I felt that this was the best time and path for both of us," Federer said. "Paul remains a dear friend and we both look forward to continuing our friendship, I want to thank Paul for his help and the value he has added to me and my team," Federer added.
Annacone also expressed his feelings on the matter and posted this message on his Twitter account.
We just hope that he made the right decision. Many tennis enthusiasts and even tennis players themselves have said that Federer is the greatest player of all time and we are pretty sure that he can get back on track and claim Grand Slam titles again in no time.
