With just 20 days left for "Arrambam" release, the film's makers have found themselves in a rut after a financier filed a petition at the Madras High Court seeking action against the film's release.
B Rajeswari of Shenoy Nagar claimed that the film's producer AM Rathnam failed to return the money borrowed from her.
According to the petitioner, Rathnam, who owns Sri Surya Movies, had borrowed ₹1.5 crore to produce 2006-box office dud "Kedi". He had borrowed the money in May 2005 and assured to repay the amount with interest in 2006.
As Rathnam could not return the money on time, he signed another agreement during the production of "Nandalala" in 2006, assuring to repay the amount with 36 percent annual interest. The petitioner claimed that Rathnam owns ₹4.5 crore as on 10 October 2013, reported The Times of India.
On Friday (11 October), the petition came before Justice V Ramasubramanian for hearing, after which the judge sent a notice to Rathnam. On his part, Rathnam claimed he is not the producer of "Arrambam" and said that A Raghuram's Sri Sathya Sai Movies is producing the action-packed entertainer, according to senior film journalist Sreedhar Pillai.
It remains to be seen if the Ajith starrer will hit the screens during the Diwali season. "Arrambam" has been in the making for more than a year or so. There is a lot riding on the film, thanks to Ajith's star power. The theatrical rights for the film have been sold in almost all areas. Theatre bookings have begun and the film is expected to have a grand release across the globe. "Arrambam" is in the race to book screens with other Diwali releases including Karthi's "All in All Azhaguraja" and Vishal's "Pandiyanadu".
The makers of "All in All Azhaguraja" have reportedly booked over 270 theatres across the state. The theatre count for "Arrambam" is yet to be announced.
Director by Vishnu Vardhan, "Arrambam" also features Arya, Nayanthara, Taapsee Pannu and Rana Daggubati in pivotal roles.
