Arsenal's hopes of making Feyenoord defender Daryl Janmaat their newest signing have suffered a blow after the player's agent revealed the Netherlands international is open to renewing his contract with the Eredivisie giants.
The 24 year old has entered the final two years of his current deal at De Kuip and Feyenoord could be vulnerable to the full back departing for a cut price next summer or on a free 12 months later.
Juventus are understood to be among the clubs chasing the nine-time capped Netherlands defender but Arsenal have also been linked with his services as they chase a replacement for Bacary Sagna, whose days in north London are numbered.
But the player's representative says despite being tracked by a number of Serie A sides, Janmaat is receptive to an offer of a new contract from Feyenoord which would scupper any attempts from Juventus or Arsenal to sign the player.
"I've heard rumours that he is being watched by Italian clubs, but there is nothing concrete," agent Karel Jansen said.
"We are open to discussions with Feyenoord for a contract renewal, it would be a nice show of appreciation from the club. I will see if this contact occurs to decide whether or not to continue with Feyenoord."
Juventus' first choice full-back Stephan Lichtsteiner has started four times for the club in Serie A this season but the Italian giants might seek a more permanent option in the position.
Arsenal meanwhile appear likely to allow Sagna to leave the club this summer without the Frenchman's contract being renewed, with the club only willing to offer a one-year extension.
The Gunners do have Carl Jenkinson is reserve but questions remain over his positioning and experience to take on the role on a long-term basis for the club.
Manager Arsene Wenger appears to have changed tact in the transfer window, and following the addition of Mesut Ozil on deadline day looks likely to make further signings in the New Year.
