"Masters of Sex" episode 1 came with a big bang as it tells the life story of two pioneers in human sexuality studies, Dr William Masters and Virginia Johnson.
It is set in the era of the fifties which focuses on various sexual issues of people especially during that time when the topics of sex are very controversial and kept conservative. It bravely discusses how sex was thought about by most since then but not everyone was open to talk about it. Some of the initial questions about sex that was brought up in the pilot episode are why do women fake orgasms or how would a person react if someone just comes up to you and offers you oral sex?

The writer of the show was able to tell the true to life story effectively and she went straight on to the main topic. On the other hand, the introduction of the characters was done in a gradual mode to gain interest from audiences.
The "Masters of Sex" pilot episode was very enjoyable as described by The Guardian. The website noted that it lacked some sense of subtlety but it has a lot of charm to offer. Its ending too will certainly leave everyone looking forward to what will happen in the next episode as the doctor and the secretary was captured flirting with each other.
Paste Magazine's review of the "Masters of Sex" pilot episode notes the problem that it can be a drawback if the audience already knew about the real life married tandem who started the sexuality research, leaving all thrills behind. They added that acting shown in the first episode is strong with actor Michael Sheen being truly compelling to play the role of Masters.
Overall, if there is one question that the "Masters of Sex" initial episode effectively explained, it's the scientific explanation they gave to the question, "How does an orgasm feel for a woman? Fantastic."
