Alan Pardew has revealed how disappointed he is that Loic Remy was not signed by Newcastle on a permanent contract amid reports that Tottenham and West Ham are interested in signing the in-form striker.
The French striker was close to joining Newcastle back in January but instead made the move to Queens Park Rangers. He failed to rescue the side from relegation and has since moved to St. James' Park on a season-long loan.
Remy has scored five of Newcastle's nine Premier League goals this season as Yoan Gouffran and Papiss Cisse have both struggled to find their goal scoring touch.
The impressive form of the former Marseille striker has led to reports that Tottenham are considering making an offer as they look to bolster their forward options.
Roberto Soldado and Jermain Defoe have impressed thus far for Tottenham but Emmanuel Adebayor has fallen out of contention, leaving youngster Harry Kane as the third choice forward under Andre Villas-Boas.
The Daily Express reports that Spurs and West Ham, who also have a shortage of strikers on their books, are both monitoring Remy's situation as they consider making an offer for the 26 year old.
Pardew knows how important Remy has been to Newcastle this season and is still cursing the club's inability to bring him to the north east on a permanent contract.
"I wish he had joined in January," said Pardew. "I still remember the night clearly when we thought we had done the deal.
"We had a nice glass of wine, gave ourselves a nice, hearty, warm handshake and the next day he wasn't there.
"But sometimes in life you have to wait. If you wait long enough it comes around. We are really pleased to have him, I thought he was excellent. Not just his two goals, but his work-rate and everything he did was competent.
"He is a player on our books and we are pleased to have him, but at the moment he is a QPR player.
"It was interesting to read Harry Redknapp's comments that he probably won't be going back, but we will have to see."
QPR boss Redknapp made it clear that he expected Remy to depart on a permanent basis but it is yet unclear whether the France international will join Newcastle or consider his options at the end of the season.
