Sam's hairy hobbit feet and Frodo's wield sword are just one of the few highlights of the upcoming bid that is set to be held in Beverly Hills auction house. Now that the second installment of "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" is on its way, auction houses are ceasing the opportunity to market Lord of the Rings rare memorabilia to its die-hard fans.
Sam's Hairy Feet
Julien's Auctions is scheduled to open on December 5 featuring props from Sir Peter Jackson's Trilogy including a pair of prosthetic hairy Hobbit feet of Samwise Gamgee, Lord of the Rings main character. The prosthetic feet is estimated to pull a whopping amount of $15,000 and $30,000 (NZD$18,000 - $36,000).
"It has been more than a decade since the first of the trilogy films was released and in that time only a handful of items from these films have ever been publicly offered for sale," Martin Nolan, executive director of Julien's Auctions, said in a statement.
"Demand for this memorabilia is extraordinarily high and the scale and quality of this remarkable collection is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity for fans and collectors," he added.
The total auction is aimed to fetch between $1 million and $1.5 million from the sale featuring 80 LOTR collectables. Other mementos included in the auction is Gandalf the White (played by Ian McKellan) wizard staff which is estimated to fetch $50,000 and $70,000, and Fordo Baggins' (played by Elijah Wood) is estimated to fetch $100,000 and $200,000.
These priceless mementos are from the private collection of one collector, the second largest collection of Lord of the Rings movie memorabilia, behind LOTR's creator official archive of props.
Sir Peter Jackson is the man behind the epic trilogy of the Lord of the Rings films - The Fellowship of the Ring in 2001, The Two Towers in 2002 and The Return of the King in 2003. The award-winning trilogy is adapted from J.R.R. Tolkein's fantasy novel of the same name.
The films is the largest-grossing film series in history that grossed nearly US$4 billion on the worldwide box office. The latest prequel to the Lord of the Rings story is "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" which was released last year and grossed more than US$1 billion worldwide.
