Even after a busy opening day, Abhinav Kashyap's "Besharam" failed to lure the audience on the third day of its release in India.
Ranbir Kapoor in Besharam
The action comedy film, which has Ranbir Kapoor and Pallavi Sharda in the lead roles, has raked in ₹34.37 crore from its three-day run at the domestic box office.
On first day, "Besharam" collected ₹21.56 crore, however, on the second day it witnessed a 45 to 50 percent drop and minted ₹7.13 crore. The collection dropped even further on the third day to ₹5.68 crore.
"#Besharam sinks further. Fri *actuals* 5.68 cr," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
In the view of the fact that Reliance Entertainment gave "Besharam" the biggest release in the history of Indian cinema - 3600 screens - the figures are shockingly low.
The much-awaited film that stars Ranbir with parents Rishi and Neetu Kapoor has also disappointed critics.
Trade analysts had predicted that the extended weekend would boost the film's business and break the box office record of Ranbir - Deepika Padukone starrer blockbuster film "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani".
Hopes were also high on "Besharam" as Ranbir's last two films "Barfi!" and "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani" were blockbusters at the box office. But the film failed to live up to its expectations.
The Wednesday release (2 October) did not gain much for the film as the earnings declined severely on Thursday and Friday due to negative word of mouth.
Looking at the box office trend, it seems impossible for the film to pick up during the weekend.
