Mikel Arteta is convinced that Arsenal's capture of Mesut Ozil has seen the Gunners better placed to challenge for silverwares this season.
The north London side signed the German international for a club record fee of £42.5m on the deadline day from Real Madrid. Ozil has already been the match winner for the Gunners, registering four assists in all competitions and scored his first goal for Arsenal during their 2-0 win over Napoli in the Champions League clash.
Arsenal have experienced trophy drought over the years, with the victory in the 2005 FA Cup final against Manchester United being their last success. The former Everton midfielder is impressed by Ozil's ability to create chances and believes the 24-year-old German midfielder can be the difference for Arsenal this season.
"When you have a type of player who is capable of finishing the way he finished his goal it makes the difference between winning and losing those games. He's a very intelligent player, he is quick and his final ball is terrific," Arteta told www.arsenal.com.
"He [Ozil] gives you a step forward quality-wise, and is someone on the pitch who can win the game by himself. The more players you have like that the better chance we have to win the games."
Arsene Wenger has long been interested in bringing a world class striker to the club, which included the likes of Luis Suarez, Wayne Rooney and Gonzalo Higuain. The Frenchman was keen on signing the latter, but failed to add the former Madrid striker after he snubbed Arsenal for Napoli.
The Gunners manager expressed his disappointment on his side's failure to land Higuain over the summer. However, Arteta admitted that the arrival of Ozil at the Emirates has lifted everyone, both players and the club fans.
"I think he has lifted not only us but you can see the people are excited again to come and watch us and it makes a big difference," the former Everton man said.
"I think it was a great message from the club [to sign Ozil] because everybody was expecting a top, top player - probably a striker more than a No 10 - but at the end we got an amazing player."
