As expected, the mother, brother and grandmother of former Glee star Charice Pempengco did not show up at the Power of 2 concert of the lesbian singer on Saturday, Sept 28.
Charice was paired with another lesbian singer, Aiza Seguerra, who let the concert goers know that she is in a romantic relationship with former beauty queen Liza Dino.
Charice, who sang the monster hit Pyramid, admitted that some people kept a distance from her when she admitted a few months ago on national television that she has a different sexual orientation. It includes her mother Raquel and brother Carlo who were no-shows at the concert.
Explaining their absence, Charice said, quoted by Pep.ph, "I wish my family was here tonight but we are in a transition to become more accepting of each other."
Acceptance, showcased by the Sirena song of Gloc 9, was the theme of the lesbian-powered concert, said Aiza who publicly acknowledged that Dino, a former Miss Red Cross and Mutya ng Pilipinas Tourism, is her girlfriend. She is the third girlfriend whom Aiza acknowledged. The first was a girl named Chen and the second was new singer named Krissa Nery, whom Aiza mentored in Protégé, a singing contest, much like Charice's girlfriend, Alyssa Quijano, whom the former Glee star also mentored in the X Factor.
Dino is also an indie film actress who recently won an award for best actress in an international film festival.
Both Aiza and Charice, separately, dedicated and sang love songs to their girlfriends, the Eat Bulaga discovery and child beauty queen singing Araw Gabi, while the ex-Glee star sang a duet with Alyssa, How Could An Angel Break My Heart.
She also dedicated another angel song, In the Arms of an Angel, to her father who was murdered in November 2011 when he was also estranged from the family.
Aiza met Liza 12 years ago when Aiza and Liza's first boyfriend attended the first play of Liza. They only got reconnected in December 2012 when she tweeted to Aiza that she was in Manila for the Metro Manila Film Festival where she has an entry, In Nomine Matris.
Liza admits it is her first same-sex relationship and she was initially scared, particularly her parents' reaction to her choice. Her mum initially objected to the relationship.
"I fell in love with the soul. I fell in love with the person ... And not the whole gender thing," Pep.ph quoted Liza.
