The second weekend collection of Ritesh Batra's romantic film, "The Lunchbox" is more than that of "Phata Poster Nikla Hero", according to reports.
"The Lunchbox" starring Irrfan Khan and Nimrat Kaur earned only ₹1.25 crore on the opening day but it continued to draw in crowds to the theatres due to good word of mouth. According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the film earned slightly better than "PPNH" at the box office in the second weekend, earning ₹5.01 crore as compared to Shahid starrer's ₹5 crore.

"#TheLunchbox collected 5.01 cr nett in its Weekend 2: Fri 95 lacs, Sat 1.91 cr, Sun 2.15 cr. Grand total: 16.59 cr nett," tweeted Sdarsh, adding, "#PPNH collected 5 cr nett in its Weekend 2: Fri 1.25 cr, Sat 1.75 cr, Sun 2 cr. Grand total: 36.50 cr nett."
Released in 400 screens across the country, "The Lunchbox" recorded a tremendous growth on the second day after registering just ₹1.25 crore revenue on the first day, earning more than ₹11 crore in the first week of its release. Reportedly made on a budget of ₹9 crore, "The Lunchbox" has already recovered the cost of production. In fact, the makers of the film have made a reasonal profit from the film as it has earned over ₹16 crore so far.
The film is expected to rake in some more revenue till Ranbir Kapoor's "Besharam" hits the theatres on 2 October.
