An Australian prison will soon have a celebrity inmate, a very sexy one at that, having been a Playboy model and actress in the 1980s and early 1990s.
For now, she is a prisoner at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Los Angeles, California. Once the extradition to Australia of Brandi Brandt is approved, she will be flown to Australia to face charges.
Known as the California rock goddess of the 1980s and the actress with the big hair, Ms Brandt is accused of being part of a U.S.-Australia cocaine import mafia by hiding packages of the illegal drug on Qantas and United Airlines jets that ferry the California-Sydney route. The packages are collected by staff of an airline catering company upon arrival in Sydney.
Police authorities have a trail of Ms Brandt and her partner's trips, including the financial transactions as well as the volume of cocaine they were caught with.
If she will be convicted, Ms Brandt, the Miss October 1987 and March 1990 cover girl of Playboy, could be meted a maximum life imprisonment sentence in Australia. She and former boyfriend Rusty Setser, a motorcycle stuntman of Crusty Demons, agreed to the extradition to avoid a lengthy court trial in LA.
Anthony Solis, Ms Brandt's lawyer, said the former Playboy cover girl would probably stay for two more months in the LA facility before Australian and American officials complete paperwork for her extradition.
Ms Brandt and Mr Setser are facing in Australia one count of conspiracy to import a commercial quantity of cocaine and a second count of dealing with proceeds of crime worth A$100,000 or more.
In 1989, Ms Brandt married Nikki Sixx, the bassist of Motley Crue. The couple, who divorced in 1996, has three children - Gunner, Decker and Storm. Mr Sixx married another Playboy Playmate and former Baywatch actress, Donna D'Errico.
With her likely long jail term, Ms Brandt would not be able to make TV shows or films anymore, so fans would probably just have to content with watching her old TV shows such as this one on YouTube.
