With Microsoft launching newer versions of their Surface model, it can be worthwhile to have a look back at its Microsoft Surface RT as they drop its base price. And to make it more interesting, it would be best to compare it with another affordable tablet around the $300 range which is the iPad Mini.
When it comes to size, the Surface RT measures 38 per cent more in length and 26 per cent in width. On the other hand, if you want something thinner, then it is the Apple tablet you should go for. This goes the same for its weight since the Apple iPad mini only measures 308g and the Surface RT is 680g.
Both play a fair game when it comes to the materials used in making it. Surface only has a better edge especially with its kickstand that is a built-in feature to it. There are covers that can be bought for the iPad, but it won't offer you an overboard stand as the Surface does.
When it comes to display specs, both do not boast much of clear resolutions but the Mini is ahead of this aspect by about 60 per cent. The Surface RT's processor is much better than the iPad Mini since the first has Nvidia Tegra 3 at 1.3GHz and Apple has the A5 at 1 GHz. The RAM for Surface is also way better with 2GB, while the Mini only has 512MB. Not to mention that Microsoft's tablet offering also has the microSD option.
Other unique feature of the Surface Pro that the iPad Mini cannot offer is the option to use a mouse. However, since the RT is already touch-based, then it does not do much different at all.
As a wrap up, each of the tablets has their own advantages to be proud of. If budget is your priority, then the Apple iPad Mini can be the optimum choice. It has a mature platform with superior app options. However, if you are in search of a bigger screen and a lot more options that involve connectivity, the Microsoft Surface RT is what's for you, gizmag.com reports.
With a lot of news coming in for the future and better version of the Microsoft Surface series, it can definitely outweigh Apple's tablets in no time, according to Time Techland. In fact, BGR recently reported that a Microsoft Surface Mini might be released in the later part of 2013.
