Andre Villas-Boas has branded Tottenham Hotspur's Capital One Cup clash with Aston Villa an "impossible game" due to fixture congestion damaging their chances of progressing.
Tottenham travel to Villa Park on Tuesday to take on Paul Lambert's side just two days after their 1-0 win over Cardiff in the Welsh capital.
With Aston Villa's midland rivals Birmingham City and West Brom both in action at home on Wednesday, Tottenham's game was moved to Tuesday night due to constraints on policing resources.
While understanding of the circumstances, the Spurs boss is disappointed with the unrelenting schedule his side have been presented with so early in the season, indicating he will ring in the changes in order to reduce the risk of injury in his squad.
"This is an impossible game for us to play, but hopefully our team spirit and motivation can get us through," the Tottenham boss said.
"It (the Capital One Cup) is not our absolute number one priority but I don't think we have been given a fair chance to play in this competition this year.
"It could be possible for the players who played against Cardiff to play this game but I am not sure I want to risk the players who played getting a hamstring injury which could take them six weeks to recover from when the Premier League is more important.
"This team has not experienced having to play again after just two days and we have not been given the same chance as the other teams. So we will have to rotate our squad as the players who played in Cardiff will not be involved.
"We are struggling a little bit with injuries but we have great strength in depth, although it is not going to be easy."
In light of his side's schedule, Villas-Boas could decide to give Vlad Chiriches his Tottenham debut. The Romania international was an unused substitute during Tottenham's win over Cardiff, and could be joined by former Roma star Erik Lamela.
The Argentine has made three late substitute appearances for his new club since his club record transfer to White Hart Lane in addition to starting Tottenham's Europa League win over Tromso, but could be handed his first domestic start this week.
Also in line for starting appearances are Lewis Holtby, who was introduced with just minutes remaining at the Cardiff City Stadium, along with Sandro and another potential full debutant in Zeki Fryers.
