Adult comedy, "Grand Masti" is continuing to do well at the box office despite major releases this week, earning ₹69.50 crore in eight days.
The low-budget film starring Aftab Shivdasani, Riteish Deshmukh and Vivek Oberoi was thrashed by critics but it managed to made a good opening and has turned into a box office hit.
"#GrandMasti Week 1: ₹ 66.10 cr. Week 2: Fri ₹ 3.40 cr. Total: ₹ 69.50 cr," tweeted trande analyst Taran Adarsh.
The Adult-rated film, which opened with ₹12.50 crore, earned an impressive ₹40 crores in the first weekend, making it one of the best opening weekends of 2013. It earned an impressive ₹3.40 on Friday despite two major releases - "Phata Poster Nikhla Hero" and "The Lunchbox".
Standing close to reaching ₹70 crores, the countdown to the elite 100 crore club has already begun for the film.
When asked Ritesh Deshmukh about speculations of reaching ₹100-crore mark, the actor played safe saying, "When the film released on Friday, the real thing was for it to recover its investment and be called as a clean success. We have already managed that. Let the film continue its winning streak; I am not yet thinking of 100 crores though."
The sequel to "Masti" was made on an average budget of ₹31 crores and it went to earn ₹67 crore in the first week itself, which proves the movie has raked above 100 per cent profit already, including the intial investment cost.
