Manchester United are reportedly keeping tabs on Red Bull Salzburg defender Martin Hinteregger.
The 21-year-old broke into the Austrian outfit's first team during the 2010/11 season and is now a regular starter for the club. According to talkSPORT, the Red Devils' scouts have been monitoring the player, as manager David Moyes weighs up a move in the near future.
Hinteregger was called up to the senior Austria side for their matches against Romania and Ukraine last year, though he did not feature in either. The report claims Salzburg would hold out for around £6m for the centre-back, who has a contract that runs till 2017.
The defender had scored a spectacular goal from 70 yards in a friendly against Schalke earlier this summer, increasing his reputation among top European clubs. Hinteregger received the ball from his goalkeeper and beat two Schalke players with his first touch. The youngster then had the audacity to attempt a shot from his half and the ball sailed over Timo Hildebrand and into the net.
Meanwhile, United midfielder Michael Carrick feels the team has performed relatively well during the opening games of the season and are now starting to find their rhythm.
The Red Devils are fifth in the Premier League table, with seven points from their first four matches. However, after defeating Bayer Leverkusen 4-2 in the Champions League game at Old Trafford on Tuesday, Carrick believes the club will head into the weekend's derby against Manchester City with plenty of confidence.
"I don't think that we've played that badly so far this season. The Swansea game was a good game, the Chelsea one was tight, but Liverpool is always a bit of a one-off game which you can't really read too much into. We won at the weekend, and on Tuesday, we took it to another level and improved again. Hopefully we can do it again on Sunday. The performance will breed confidence, and we'll have to do it all again on Sunday," 32-year-old pointed out.
