A photo of a sad De La Hoya with caption that reads "MEANWHILE IN REHAB, OSCAR: I gave Canelo the wrong blueprint, I was high," has recently surfaced over popular social networking sites, citing that it came from Mayweather's Instagram account.
While it is true that the said photo was posted on his Instagram, Mayweather apparently was not the one who did it. He did not make it clear concerning about the identity of the individual who did post the picture, but it sure is probably one of his team. It would be better to have responsible people under his team that will post under his name, to avoid this incident from happening again.
The photo in question was taken down after a few hours, when it started circulating the Internet.
Instantaneously, Mayweather apologised and said sorry to the Golden Boy. He issued a statement via his publicist and it was posted on the photo-sharing Web site.
See it below.
Many fans, both Mayweather and De La Hoya's, were pretty pleased about his act of contrition and comments on his apology came pouring in. "It is nice to see this side of Mayweather, true champion," one fan commented.
Mayweather, clearly, believes that it is never right to treat anyone who is struggling from addiction with disrespect. He never gave permission to post the photo in the first place.
Prior to Mayweather's fight with Alvarez, De La Hoya has checked himself in a rehab facility to battle his addiction problems. Mayweather has stated and expressed his support to De La Hoya through these tough times, which is a little puzzling that he would even make a joke about De La Hoya's condition.
The celebrity gossip Web site TMZ ran across De La Hoya, who seemed positive and in good spirits. He was pretty cool about it, that he accepts Mayweather's public apology. "It was very nice of him," he said.
