Another dozen countries play their opening matches Wednesday in the 2013 World Cup of Pool at York Hall in East London. Two of the pre-tournament favourites in China and United States of America play Hungary and Kuwait, respectively and hopes to avoid a first round upset in this tournament with a $250,000 prize pool.

3rd seed China is represented by Li Hewen and Lio Haitao. Li is part of the Chinese teams which won in 2007 in the Netherlands and 2010 in the Philippines. Li’s partner in those championship runs was Fu Jian-bo.
4th seed USA is bannered by Shane Van Boening and Johnny Archer. The Americans won the 2008 edition of the World Cup in Holland where Boening conspired with Rodney Morris for their first and only World Cup of Pool title.
China’s Li and Lio take on Kuwaitis Omar Al Shaheen and Khaled Al Mutairi while USA’s Van Boening and Archer face Hungarians Miko Balazs and Gabor Solymosi in the Round of 32.
Other marquee match-ups for Wednesday include Canada (Alex Pagulayan and John Morra) vs. India (Raj Hundal and Amar Kang); Russia (Konstantin Stepanov and Ruslan Chinakhovvs) vs. Hong Kong (Lee Chenman and Kong Bu Hong); and Japan (Naoyuki Oi and Lo Li-wenvs) vs. Sweden (Andreas Gerwen & Marcus Chamat).
