21.45: So that's it folks. A great win for both United and City. We'll be back tomorrow to see if Arsenal and Chelsea can do the same. Join us then.
21.45: Final Results
Man United 4-2 Leverkusen
Plzen 0-3 Man City
Bayern 3-0 CSKA Moscow
Benfica 2-0 Anderlecht
Copenhagen 1-1 Juventus
Galatasaray 1-6 Real Madrid
Olympiakos 1-4 PSG
Real Sociedad 0-2 Shakhtar
21.37: So it is a pretty major statement from the big sides in Europe as Real Madrid, Man United, PSG, Man City,. PSG and Bayern all score three of more. It is only the Italian champions Juventus who will be disappointed after their 1-1 draw with Copenhagen.
21.34: Galatasaray 1-5 Real Madrid: Bulut
21.32: Aguero blazes over the bar after good work from Negredo who finds the Argentinean in the box but under pressure his shot is safely over.
21.32: Galatasaray 0-5 Real Madrid: Benzema
21.32: Real Sociedad 0-2 Shakhtar: Teixera
21.31: Surely just a late consolation but it's another goal conceded by the United defence as Stefan Reinartz beats David de Gea from a corner but thunders his header against the bar. From a goalmouth scramble, Omer Toprak gets Leverkusen a second.
21.30: Manchester United 4-2 Leverkusen: Toprak
21.28: PSG do get their fourth and it is Brazilian defender Marquinhos. A major statement of intent from the French side.
21.28: Olmpiakos 1-4 PSG: Marquinhos
21.25: PSG had the chance to grab their fourth but Zlatan Ibrahimovich is human and misses his penalty. Well it is saved.
21.23: The European giants are laying down a marker tonight. Bayern, Man City and PSG have scored three, while Man United and Real Madrid have both hit four.
21.21: United are now cruising thanks to Antonio Valencia grabbing a fourth. After a clever pass from Rooney the winger drills the ball home. I wonder if we could have a repeat of the Under19 game which finished 4-3.
21.20: Manchester United 4-1 Leverkusen: Valencia
21.18: Bale is on but it is Ronaldo who scores the fourth. The Welshman hits a beautiful free kick from the right and Sergio Ramos rises to head it goalwards. The keeper saves well but Ronaldo is there to grab his second.
21.17: Galatasaray 0-4 Real Madrid: Ronaldo
21.16: Olympiakos 1-3 PSG: Motta
21.15: Of course Ronaldo has to get his name on the scoresheet. With Gareth Bale sat on the bench, the second most expensive player in history shows why he is still Madrid's talisman.
21.13: Galatasaray 0-3 Real Madrid: Ronaldo
21.12: A raft of goals go in and Manchester United gain a two goal lead thanks to Wayne Rooney who has his 200th for the club. It's not the prettiest on the eye as David de Gea goes route one and the United forward collects and slots home.
21.11: Olympiakos 1-2 PSG: Motta
21.11: Manchester United 3-1 Leverkusen: Rooney
21.10: Bayern 3-0 CSKA Moscow: Robben
21.09: Opta - 13 - Robin van Persie has bagged 13 goals in his last 13 games in all competitions for Manchester United. Prime.
21.07: Real Sociedad 0-1 Shakhtar Donetsk: Teixeira
21.05: Galatasaray 0-2 Real Madrid: Benzema
21.03: Well that didn't last long. United retake the lead thanks to their talismanic forward. It's an acrobatic finish from the Dutch striker as he somehow gets a foot on Antonio Valencia's cross. Bernard Leno would have hoped to have done better but it was a brilliant piece of skill from RVP.
21.02: Manchester United 2-1 Leverkusen: Van Persie.
21.02: City really are in control now thanks to another wonderful finish from a top class player in Sergio Aguero. He turns well on the edge of the area before slotting home. A classy goal.
21.01: Plzen 0-3 Manchester City: Aguero
20.59. Meanwhile in Manchester it is not good news for United who find themselves level after Son Heung-Min gives the ball to Simon Rolfes. His powerful strike from outside the area gets a slight deflection but whistles in to the net.
20.58: Manchester City really could take advantage now. They are looking really strong and clearly Pellegrini gave some team talk. Aguero it is that goes close this time but his drilled shot is too close to the keeper.
20.57: Copenhagen 1-1 Juventus: Quagliarella
20.56: Manchester United 1-1 Leverkusen: Rolfes
20.56: What did we say. This is coming to life now thanks to a trul wonderful goal from Yaya Toure. The big Ivorian easily beats his defender before cutting inside and then curling a shot right into the top corner from 25 yards. True class.
20.55: Plzan 0-2 Manchester City: Toure
20.55: This game is now very lively. City were opened up and only Pablo Zabaleta getting in the way, with his face, saves the British side from conceding. This is a great start to the second half.
20.53: City are firing on all cyclinders now and again it is Dzeko with the shot. This time it is from range and it flys miles over the bar, seconds later he has another opportunity and his left footed effort is once again way over the bar. Perhaps precision over power would have suited.
20.51: That is the start that Pellgrini wanted. Aguero bustles the defender before stealing the ball and laying it into the path of Edin Dzeko who effortlessly passes the ball home. Good stuff from City.
20.50 Plzen 0-1: Manchester City: Dzeko
20.48: We are back underway and can Man City find a breakthrough. It's important for them to finally get a win in the Champions League after last season's effort.
20.32: And that is half time. David Moyes will be supremely pleased while Manuel Pellegrini will be on edge. City have had some good chances but they are struggling to get that opening goal.
20.30: Robin van Persie has just picked up a yellow card at Old Trafford while Manchester City are desperate to find a break through but Plzen are defending well and Aguero and co are beginning to get frustrated.
20.26: Bayern Munich 2-0 CSKA Moscow: Mandzukic
20.25: Isco has made some start to his Real Madrid career. He's already scored three league goals and now controls a long ball before easing past a defender and slotting home. What a player.
20.22: Leverkusen have responded pretty well to going behind with Emra Can particularly impressing. Over in the Czech Republic it is a pretty open game with City looking shaky at the back but Jesus Navas has been a fantastic outlet.
20.21: Galatasaray 0-1 Real Madrid: Isco
20.20: Benfica 2-0 Anderlecht: Luisao
20.19: Wayne Rooney is now just one goal shy of 200 for Manchester United. Moyes will be glad he managed to keep hold of the England striker as he has started the season in superb form.
20.13: CLOSE. Sergio Aguero goes on a trademark bustling run and his shot from 20 yards fires into the post. Unlucky that from City and they are starting to get a grip on this game.
20.11: Olympiakos 1-1 PSG: Weiss
20.10: That is a very clever finish from Wayen Rooney. It was good work from Patrice Evra who found the United striker but he still had plenty to do as he volleyed it past Bernd Leno.
20.09: Manchester United 1-0 Bayer Leverkusen: Rooney
20.06: it really is a shame we don't get to see Edinson Cavani in the Premier League. The Uruguayan really is a top finisher and he hands PSG the lead after tapping in after a fantastic ball from Maxwell.
20.04: Olympiakos 0-1 PSG: Cavani
20.04: So the Italian champions fall behind and it's after former United midfielder Paul Pogba gives away a needless freekick which is whipped in and eventually stabbed home by Nicolai Jorgenson.
20.01: First half chance for Bayer Leverkusen as Stefan Reinartz gets away a shot on the edge of the area which thuds behinds for a corner off Nemanja Vidic.
20.00: Copenhagen 1-0 Juventus: Jorgenson
19.58: Man City have struggled on their travels this season, particularly against Stoke and this has been an awkward start against Plzen. They are keen to get players forward and certainly aren't just sitting back and defending deep. In fact they look very confident.
19.55: It has been a confident start from Marouane Fellaini in the cente of the United midfield. He has limited experience in European competition but can he help United get off to the perfect start.
19.53: That is some strike from Jesus Navas. The Spanish winger tries his luck from 30 yards and it's a clean striker but it's straight at the keeper who palms it over for a corner.
19.51: What a start for the reigning champions as David Alaba opens the scoring with a fantastic free kick. They will take some stopping this season.
19.50: Benfica 1-0 Anderlecht: Djuricic
19.49: Bayern Munich 1-0 CSKA Moscow: Alaba
19.45: Peep, are we are underway. David Moyes will be desperate for a quick start to gelp settle his nerves but it certainly won't be easy against this hugely talented German outfit.
19.41: We are almost ready to go as players across Europe emerge out of the tunnels. We will be focusing on the Manchester clubs but we will have goal updates from every single game tonight.
19.39: There are some real heavyweight in action tonight with Real Madrid, defending champions Bayern Munich and big spending Paris Saint Germain all in action. I wonder what odds you'd get on all three sides winning tonight?
19.37: City could be in for a tough night judging by their recent history in the competition.
5 - Man City have lost 5 of their 6 away games in the Champions League, the only exception being a 3-0 victory at Villarreal. Challenge.— OptaJoe (@OptaJoe) September 17, 2013
19.33: Back to Old Trafford. Sami Hyypia will have some great memories from the last time he visited this ground. It was in March 2009 when Liverpool beat Manchester United 4-1. "Those were my last 90 minutes in a Liverpool shirt and we managed to win 4-1," recalls Hyppia. "I wasn't even supposed to start. Álvaro Arbeloa was injured in the warm-up and only two minutes before kick-off did I knew I was playing. So from that point of view it went quite well."
19.30: It's time for Bale Watch. The world's most expensive footballer scored on his Real Madrid debut but he starts on the bench tonight as the Spanish club take on Galatasaray in Turkey.
19.28: We're hoping that we may be in for some cracking games tonight if the senior sides can emulate their young counterparts. The UEFA Youth League kicked off today and Manchester United defeated Leverkusen 4-3 thanks to a last minute penalty from James Wilson, while Man City won 4-1 against Plzen with Andy Cole's son scoring the fourth.
19.23: And here are the teams.
Viktoria Plzen: Kozacik, Rajtoral, Hejda, Prochazka, Limbersky, Horava, Horvath, Petrzela, Kolar, Kovarik, Bakos. Subs: Bolek, Hubnik, Tecl, Duris, Wagner, Pospisil, Koukal.
Man City: Hart, Zabaleta, Kompany, Nastasic, Kolarov, Toure, Fernandinho, Jesus Navas, Aguero, Nasri, Dzeko. Subs: Pantilimon, Lescott, Milner, Negredo, Javi Garcia, Rodwell, Jovetic.
Referee: Paolo Tagliavento (Italy)
19.21: It certainly won't be a cake walk for City as Plzen thrashed Napoli 5-0 in the Europa League last season, whilst also defeating Atletico Madrid before finally falling to Fenerbahce.
19.18: There will also be a tricky test for Manuel Pellegrini and his Manchester City side tonight when they take on Czech champions Plzen. While City have a dreadful record in Europe over the last two seasons their manager has worked wonders with Villarreal and Malaga. Last season he led the Spanish side to the quarter-finals where they were unlucky to lose to eventual finalists Borussia Dortmund.
19.17: Let's start with some team news from Old Trafford.
Man Utd: De Gea, Smalling, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Valencia, Carrick, Fellaini, Kagawa, Rooney, van Persie. Subs: Lindegaard, Evans, Anderson, Hernandez, Young, Fabio Da Silva, Cleverley.
Bayer Leverkusen: Leno, Donati, Spahic, Toprak, Boenisch, Can, Reinartz, Rolfes, Sam, Kiessling, Son. Subs: Palop, Wollscheid, Bender, Derdiyok, Hilbert, Oztunali, Kruse.
Referee: Damir Skomina (Slovenia)
19.15: Rejoice the Champions League is finally back upon us and it is massive night for both of the Manchester teams as they look to get their European adventures off to a positive start. David Moyes has looked rather concerned at times on the Old Trafford touchline and tonight is a massive test against an in-form Bayer Leverkusen side managed by former Liverpool defender Sami Hyypia.
