Brendan Rodgers has revealed he has been tracking Victor Moses for some time with the Liverpool manager admitting he tried to sign the winger when he was just 16 years old.
Rodgers began his coaching career at Chelsea where he was working with the youth team and it was during his time at Stamford Bridge that he first became aware of a talented teenager at Crystal Palace.
Moses eventually made the move to the Blues in 2012 but has so far had mixed success at Stamford Bridge and subsequently sealed a season-long loan to Liverpool. The 22 year old is touted for big things on Merseyside in the campaign ahead and Rodgers says he's well aware of the Nigeria international's talents.
"I know he will work well because he's a good guy; I met him when he was 16 and nearly signed him at Chelsea then," Rodgers said, according to the Daily Mail.
"He came to us to train while he was a young player at Crystal Palace. Everything was set up for him to come to Chelsea at the time and for whatever reason it fell through and he stayed.
"I know what I'm getting. He's got the profile that suits our game in terms of his technique, his quality and he's a humble guy."
Rodgers was able to make Moses one of his final signings of the transfer window, bringing in eight new faces over the course of the summer.
And the manager has admitted that the deal went through very quickly, insisting that Moses can use this move to his advantage and fulfill his potential.
"In terms of this summer, it was probably unexpected for him," he explained. "It's a unique opportunity for him; he's leaving a very good club, that has been successful, and he's coming to one of the biggest clubs in the world.
"There are not many players that get a chance to do that. He's coming here to prove himself.
"When he was a young player, he was the number nine so he can play in the central striking role or can move. In any one of those top four positions, he's comfortable.
"We've seen him a lot playing from the left side, where he cuts in - he's got great feet, great ability, can shoot off either foot and can beat a man, which is important for us."
