Grant Gustin from "Glee" has been roped in to be the iconic speedster The Flash/Barry Allen in various episodes in backdoor pilot and potential "Flash" spinoff of The CW, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Gustin is asked to play the comic character and make an appearance in three episodes of "Arrow" - eight, nine and twenty. The last one will serve as the backdoor pilot for the "Flash" spinoff series.
The "Flash" spinoff will be a story of origin, somewhat similar to what the producers did with "Arrow." Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and David Nutter are the guys behind the spinoff. Geoff Johns of DC Entertainment will join Berlanti and Kreisberg and together they will write the script for Warner Bros. Television. David Nutter will take up the job of the director for the show.
Barry Allen is a Central City assistant police forensic investigator who comes to Starling in order to examine a series of clueless robberies that may have some kind of connection with him (a tragedy from the past). Barry is a huge comic book fan and is obsessed with the Arrow and his association with Oliver and Felicity to crack the case has brought him in the middle of the vigilante world.
"Part of the fun for the audience ... is to see how we view our "Arrow" take on the Flash legacy," Kreisberg revealed.
"Some of it will feel very familiar to DC Comics, some of it hopefully will feel different, fresh and exciting. The same way we approached "Arrow" is the same way we're approaching Barry," he added.
Gustin reunites with The CW, last time, he was seen on the final season of "90210."
"Arrow" returns on The CW on Oct. 9.
