Southampton 0-0 West Ham United
17:56: And that's it; the final whistle has gone at St Mary's. A string of fines saves from Jussi Jaaskelainen ensured that Southampton didn't sneak a win in a contest that was downright awful at times. Sam Allardyce will be happier after his dilapidated squad emerged with a point, but I can't imagine many tuning into Match of the Day tonight to catch this. Super Sunday indeed.
Full time - Southampton 0-0 West Ham United
17:49: Four minutes of extra time added on. Southampton shout for a penalty as Kevin Nolan sheepishly sticks his hands behind his back as the ball drifts dangerously by him out for a goal kick. Referee isn't interested.
17:43: James Collins skies West Ham's best opportunity of the afternoon. Fonte and Lovren initially do well to deal with series of scrappy efforts as West Ham threw men into the box, but the ball eventually fell to Mark Noble who did well to burst past his man on the right hand touch line to square a perfect ball for the centre half. Leaning back, Collins balloons his effort well over the bar.
17:40: Sky Sports conveniently point out the last time these two sides played out a scoreless draw was 18 years ago. Just before this contest kicked off then, or so it feels.
17:37: Morrison's debut comes to an end as Matt Taylor takes his place. Not a bad day for the former Manchester United starlet; played one brilliant ball that West Ham's blunt attack should really have capitalised on int he first half and worked hard to make himself avaliable throughout, despite not being found all too often.
17:36: Calum Chambers replaces Luke Shaw who looked as if he was struggling during the last ten minutes.
17:32: Another cracking save from Jaaskelainen. Rodriguez picks up the ball in midfield and drives towards goal before opting to play in Lambert, who has veered off to the left. The England striker hits it first time on his right foot in an attempt to curl it into the far corner, but Jaaskelainen's reflexes are up to the standard yet again.
17:29: Maiga's miserable afternoon comes to an end as Ricardo Vaz Te is brought on. Another Southampton starlet James Ward-Prowse also comes off the bench to replace Lallana.
17:26: Terrific save from Jaaskelainen. Rodriguez dinks in a cute cross from the right that Schneiderlin hits first time just outside the six yard area. The Frenchman's effort is hit into the ground but it skids up wickedly seemingly destined for the net, but the West Ham keeper leaps across to palm it to safety.
17:24: And another one. Morrison shows a bit too much of the ball to Wanyama who dives in dangerously to pick up Southampton's first yellow of the afternoon.
17:22: Mark Noble picks up a booking after sliding in on Lovren. The defender failed in his attempt to nutmeg the Hammers midfielder and took a heavy challenge for his trouble. Noble joins Diame in the referee's book.
17:20: Razvan Rat comes on for Guy Demel to make his Premier League debut.
17:17: With Downing and Cole unavailable, West Ham's attacking options on the bench are limited. Ricardo Vaz Te waits, in addition to teenage striker Elliot Lee. Son of former Hammer Rob Lee, the 18-year-old has been prolific for the club's development squad but remains untested at Premier League level.
17:12: Much better from Southampton in this half. Lambert is picked out by Osvaldo and feeds Lallana who has made an excellent run through the middle. His first touch is heavy however, and Jaaskelainen is once again out quickly to smother his effort.
17:09: Southampton break again with three options in Lallana, Lambert and Osvaldo ahead of the ball but Schneiderlin picks the wrong option and West Ham scramble the ball away.
17:08: Off the bar! Lambert leaps to get on the end of a corner and hits the wood work with a powerful header. Wanyama follows it up with an effort the Kenyan claims stuck the arm of Collins, but the referee is having none of it.
17:01: We are just about to get back underway at St Mary's. God help us.
16:50: It's been difficult to watch at times during the first half at St Mary's; the hosts have had the game's only real chance when Jaaskelainen's excellent reflexes were needed to beat away an effort from Osvaldo. West Ham's lack of a presence up front has been telling while Diame looks about as comfortable as the Pope would in a strip club stranded on the right wing. Let's hope for some improvement.
Half Time - Southampton 0-0 West Ham United
16:45: Morrison finds O'Brien on the right with an excellent pass that slips between both Fonte and Clyne. The full back plays the ball across the box seemingly looking for Nolan but it eventually falls for Maiga whose effort is woeful.
16:44: Two minutes of added time here.
16:40: Nolan picks up the scraps after a Diame cross is partially cleared, but his miss-hit effort is swept away by Southampton. It's not a great clearance however and the ball is picked up by Morrison, who hits a curling effort on goal from about 30 yards out. It's a very decent effort from the 20-year-old, but it whips over the left hand side of the goal.
16:38: It hasn't exactly been easy on the eyes at St Mary's this afternoon. A lot hoofing with just the one real clear cut chance for Osvaldo to report.
16:33: Diame nips around Wanyama but is met by a crunching tackle from Morgan Schneiderlin. Looked a painful one, but not enough to produce a free kick, much to the dismay of the West Ham bench.
16:30: Matt Jarvis is put through with an excellent pass to leave him one on one with Boruc. The Polish goalkeeper is out quickly to make the save, but the whistle has already gone. Bit of a shame, Kevin Nolan strikes the resulting loose ball beautifully into the net from 30 yards out and replays show Jarvis looked onside.
16:26: Lovren doesn't anticipate a Demel throw in too well, allowing Maiga to get the wrong side of him near the penalty area. The former Lyon defender claws back and eventually catches his man, but the West Ham striker hits the deck clutching his face. At worst, Lovren may have tickled his eye lash.
16:21: Jimmy Collins slides in to clear a loose pass but the ball disappears under him into the path of Lambert. The striker marches menacing on goal before squaring to Osvaldo, but the former Roma man's touch is poor. Lambert collects it once again and hits a powerful low effort but again it's comfortably collected by Jaaskelainen
16:20: Diame picks the ball up some 35 yards out from goal and shoots. It's a well struck effort, but Boruc calmly watches it sail over the right hand side of his goal.
16:17: Southampton have taken the initiative for the time being. Shaw this time breaks down the left with ease and drives a cross in for Rodriguez that has just too much pace on it, bouncing off the forward for West Ham to clear.
16:15: Morrison is lucky to escape a yellow card after a late challenge on Lambert. If it had occured later in the game, perhaps if the youngster wasn't making his Premier League bow, he would have found himself in the referee's book.
16:11: Jaaskelainen makes a brilliant save to keep the score at 0-0. Rodriguez skips down the left past Demel and plays in a sharp cross that slips behind Collins. The ball reaches Osvaldo on the edge of the six yard area whostrikes for goal, but the West Ham' keeper makes himself big and deflects the ball out for a corner. Osvaldo could have perhaps done better with his direction, but a fine save none the less.
16:09: Matt Jarvis has swung in a few wayward crosses that have earned him a couple of menacing glares from Allardyce on the sidelines.
16:06: Diame is finding some luck down the right hand channel. The big midfielder cuts in and shrugs off the challenge of Shaw as he awkwardly makes his way into the box before firing an effort straight at Boruc, who knocks the ball out for a corner at the near post. Good start from West Ham.
16:04: Collins launches a free kick into the box which Reid attempts to get on the end of. Shaw picks up the loose ball and impressively holds off the New Zealand international before playing his way out of trouble.
16:00: And we are underway at St Marys.
15:56: Kingston native (of the Upon-Thames variety) Luke Shaw makes his third start of the season.
15:52: Exciting line up for Saints with a front four of Rodriguez, Lallana, Osvaldo and Lambert with Wanyama and Schneiderlin achoring in midfield.
15:44: With Andy Carroll's injury woes an on-going concern, Modibo Maiga leads the West Ham line but the club are really struggling for other striking options. Mladen Petric doesn't make the squad as he continues to finsd his full fitness and with 18-year-old Elliot Lee called up from the under-21 side to take a place on the bench.
15:42: Now a fully fledged England international, Rickie Lambert starts up front his afternoon for Southampton alongside record signing Pablo Osvaldo.
15:41: In the absence of Joe Cole and Stewart Downing Ravel Morrison will make his West Ham debut this afternoon. Once tipped as one of the most talented players to emerge from Manchester United's academy, the 20-year-old enjoyed a brilliant pre-season and will look to take advantage of a swathe of injuries in Sam Allardyce's squad and stake a claim for consistent role.
