A Devizes man was jailed after he admitted that he had had sex with a goat.
Robert Newman admitted that he had assaulted a goat in a Devizes barn in April. He changed his plea after trying hard to deny the charge initially. North West Wiltshire Magistrates' Court sentenced Mr Newman a 6-week imprisonment for the assault. The goat whom Mr Newman had allegedly raped required medical attention after the incident.
Mr Newman allegedly launched the assault on the animal at night in a Devizes barn in Wiltshire. Mr Newman was in the middle of an 8-week suspension for burglary when he committed the crime in August 2012. The suspension sentence is going to run simultaneously. The sentence was activated by the chair of the bench, Gail Chilcott. MRs Chilcott informed Mr Newman that he was guilty of breaching every court order handed to him. It was the second breach of his suspended court order.
The name of the owner of the goat was not disclosed in the court. On the other hand, Prosecutor Anna Humphreys read a statement on behalf of the owner. The statement read that they had to pay for the vet's fees along with medicines required due to the injuries born by the goat. The statement blamed Mr Newman for being responsible for costing them a significant amount of money as they had to install security cameras.
According to Anne Ellery, the explanation of the act must be done by understanding that it was a not a symptom of depravity but of isolation. The reason behind Mr Newman's delay in admitting that he had committed the crime was the shame and embarrassment associated with the declaration.
Ms Ellery read one statement on behalf of Mr Newman. The statement read that he did not wish to be such a bad person any further. Mr Newman apparently expressed his desire to do good things in life. He wanted to say sorry for whatever he had done. Mr Newman was apparently emotionless when he was taken to the cells.
