The title of the 50th Anniversary Special of “Doctor Who” has been revealed. “The Day of the Doctor” will be aired 50 years to the day since the popular show first hit British TV screens on November 23.

As previously revealed, the commemorative episode will feature the eleventh Doctor Matt Smith with predecessor David Tennant. John Hurt will also join them as a previously unknown incarnation of the titular character.
Billie Piper and Jenna Coleman are confirmed to appear as well as the Doctors’ past and present companions.
Though short of the expected “film length” of 90 minutes, fans can still enjoy the episode in the feature length of 75 minutes.
It will also feature the Time Lord’s classic opponents, such as the Daleks, the Cybermen, and the Zygons.
“50 years has turned Doctor Who from a television show into a cultural landmark. Personally I can’t wait to see what it becomes after a hundred,” lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat said.
“The Day of the Doctor is nearly here! Hope you all enjoy. There’s lots more coming your way, as the countdown to the 50th begins now,” Smith said.
Smith, the youngest actor to play the Doctor at 26 in 2009, will leave the show after the Christmas special. It was announced in August that his successor will be Peter Capaldi.
