iPhone 5C or iPhone 5S? Holiday phone shoppers have two new Apple iOS phones in the Q4 2013 selection: One is for users who don't mind a cheaper plastic exterior, the other is for those who want "the best." Both phones were unveiled at the recently-concluded Sept. 10 Apple event in Cupertino, California.

The best phone for Apple fans may not be the best choice for Android enthusiasts. For Apple, however, iPhone 5S is "the most forward-thinking phone." Describing the iPhone 5C, design boss Jony Ive said it is "the vivid realization of hardware and software in one device."
The iPhone 5C comes in five colours: green, grey, blue, peach, and yellow. These are vibrant shades typically associated to the youth, and many things "fun." These cololors are expected to polarise iPhone users, the way early reports of iOS 7 did. (Evasi0n jailbreakers on Twitter said the iOS 7 looks like an OS for kids.) The iPhone 5S comes in more serious tones: space grey, silver, and champagne or gold - colours that mean "business." The latter is obviously directed at the professionals and executives.
For some users, the worst new iPhone dealbreaker is the plastic (polycarbonate) exterior. For others, this is the best thing about the new Apple phone -- because now it's relatively cheaper. It's not exactly a budget iPhone, for many practical buyers, though. Under carrier contracts, the iPhone 5C price tag is marked $99 for 16GB, and $199 for 32GB. Pre-orders begin in only a couple of days.
iPhone 5C has a lot of iPhone 5 features and specs, such as the 4-in screen display and the A6 chip under the hood. Apple promises that users will enjoy its "blazing-fast performance."
The iPhone 5S in many ways -- chassis and size considered -- is a lot like the just-discontinued iPhone 5. But it's got the latest security feature: the Touch ID fingerprint sensor. It also takes mobile photography to a new level with the improved iSight camera. The True Tone flash feature and f/2.2 aperture (sensor bigger by 15 per cent) will be irresistible to mobile photography hobbyists. Add to that a 120fps slow-motion camera, and mobile media producers are in for some treat.

The new A7 chip on the iPhone 5S is optimised by a new coprocessor called the M7. As for the battery life, Apple claims its new flagship phone can endure 10 hours of 3G talk time, LTE browsing, and video playback.
The perennial iPhone dealbreaker for many users is its lack of expandable storage. Apple bosses boasted of how iOS 7 allows users of iPhone 5S to produce content more easily. However, the limited storage creates a post-production hassle for many. iOS 7 itself could also be a dealbreaker for others. Its look and feel have already received waves of criticism ahead of the first beta version release.
The iPhone 5S price variants on carrier contracts is as follows: $199 for 16GB, $299 for 32GB, and $399 for 64GB. Phone shoppers in Australia who want to pre-order the new iPhones may do so from Sept. 13 (5C) and Sept. 20 (5S).
