"Boardwalk Empire" is mostly about Nucky. In season 4, he was seen in a much better position after killing Gyp Rosetti at the finale of the previous season. He calls a meeting with Joe Masseria, Arnold Rothstein, Lucky Luciano and Meyer Lansky. The meeting was to bury the hatchet; he does this by making a big cash offering to Joe.
There is a hint of the simmering tension between Rothstein and Luciano. Readers will remember Luciano was very angry at Rothstein in "Boardwalk Empire" season 3 for being set up in a heroin deal. The bond between the Thompson brothers is strong again.
Gillian Darmody, the owner of the cathouse, is seen fighting for the custody of her grandson - Tommy. She intends to sell her house and focus on raising her grandson. Is this the beginning of a diminishing role of the character in "Boardwalk Empire"?
Eli's eldest son is seen more interested in the "family business" than a college degree. Agent Warren Knox could be the big gun from the law in season 4. He is seen as a crooked and cunning officer. Both these characters may play a big role in the future of "Boardwalk Empire."
Al Capone is angry that a newspaper article got his name wrong and also for calling him "factotum" meaning a servant. Sure enough, Capone pays the reporter a visit and gives him the spelling of his name. The reporter luckily does not get beat up in the process. Capone could play a bigger role in future episodes of the "Boardwalk Empire."
Richard Harrow goes on a killing spree before finally returning "home." With most of his associated characters like James Darmody dead and Gillian not playing a role in the central plot, it is possible that the Richard Harrow character may take a back seat, making room for new characters.
The first episode of season 4 was marked with the usual sex and violence that is characteristic of "Boardwalk Empire." Dr Narcisse, seen in the trailers of the new season, has not made his appearance yet.
