Football legend and Real Madrid assistant coach Zinedine Zidane has expressed antipathy over the the transfer fee spent on Gareth Bale and described it as "incomprehensible."
"That's football. Unfortunately, it's incomprehensible with what's happening today to pay so much." - Zinedine Zidane
Bale signed with Real for a record-breaking fee of €100 million (£85.3) from Tottenham Hotspur.
Zidane was also once a record holder when he was bought by Real in 2001 for about €75 million.
There was a sense of elation when was purchased by the Madrid team, but he cannot digest the fact that a team is willing to pay for a very large sum for a player, considering the economy's existing condition.
Persons running the clubs should be blamed for yielding to such agreements.
"Ten years ago, they bought me for 75 million euros and I said I wasn't worth it. Today, I tend to say a player is not worth that. Two clubs agree on a price and no-one is forcing the other to do anything." Zidane told Fox Sports.
"That's football. Unfortunately, it's incomprehensible with what's happening today to pay so much."
Zidane, however, will be willing to help the winger to realise his full potential and help reduce the pressure brought about by expectations.
"My role will certainly be to tell him that he plays as he knows how to, to not put too much pressure on himself," he said.
"He has an incredible potential but he still has room for improvement."
When asked if Bale is worth the sum paid by the richest club in the world, Zidane said, "You need to ask that question in a year's time."
The Welshman will be making his first appearance as a Los Blancos player on Sept 14 against Villareal.
The fans in the Bernabeu will expect no less than a spectacular show from the most expensive player, to date.
