Tottenham Hotspur new boy Christian Eriksen says the club's potential to win the Premier League title persuaded the Danish international to move to north London.
Eriksen signed for Spurs amongst reported interest from a number of clubs across Europe, ending a long-running transfer saga as the former Ajax midfielder entered the final 12 months of his contract with the Eredivisie champions.
The 21 year old is one of seven signings made by Andre Villas-Boas as the Portuguese boss attempted to offset the loss of Gareth Bale and Eriksen says that after Tottenham showed a serious interest in signing him he couldn't say no.
"There were not that many clubs to choose from in the end and no-one were closer than Tottenham," he told Danish newspaper BT. "There were a lot of rumours, but I only felt right about the approach from Tottenham. The club followed me for a long time and really showed intent.
"It was the whole package that attracted me. I spoke briefly with the manager and my impression is that he is a very good manager. The goal is to challenge for the title. That is what the club wants and that is what I want."
The switch from Holland to England will no doubt be a challenge for Eriksen particularly with a host of new signings equally fighting for their place in a new-look Tottenham first-team.
But Eriksen is confident that he can impress Villas-Boas and prove he was worth the €13.5m fee by the end of the 2013/14 campaign.
He explained: "I understand this will be a different experience - how much it is still too early to say. I might need to acclimatize, so I am not expecting to play all the games. But then I don't know what the manager has planned for me," he said.
"From the conversations I have had, they have indicated that they see me as an attacking midfielder, a creative player. They have also told me that you are expected to fight for a spot on the team because there are a lot of good players here. But, of course, I hope things will fall to my advantage."
