With a petition filed for him to remove the current actors for the "Fifty Shades Of Grey" movie and some really serious Internet backlash on the casting selection, producer Dana Brunetti has had enough. Brunetti took to Twitter and explained his side why he chose Charlie Hunnam and Dakota Johnson for the lead roles.
Dakota Johnson and Charlie Hunnam are to play Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey in film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey
Brunetti urged fans to stop hating the chosen cast and explained that a lot goes into the casting of the movie like the chemistry of the actors, their availability and willingness to do certain parts ( was he talking about the BDSM scenes here) when it is decided.
''There is a lot that goes into casting that isn't just looks. Talent, availability, their desire to do it, chemistry with other actor, etc. So if your favorite wasn't cast, then it is most likely due to something on that list. Keep that in mind while hating and keep perspective," the 40-year-old producer wrote on Twitter.
It was announced earlier that Charlie Hunnam and Dakota Johnson are chosen for the lead roles in the big screen adaptation of E.L.James' erotic novel. Hunnam and Johnson are touted to bring to life the fictional Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele.
The announcement by universal has put an end to months of speculation surrounding A-listers tipped to play an awkward yet vulnerable virgin Anastasia and her BDSM-loving billionaire boyfriend Grey.
Both Hunnam and Dakota had been victims of this backlash as fans wanted better know actors to play the lead roles. According to Hollywood Life, 23-year-old Dakota is not letting the criticism get to her as she is preparing for the role.
"She is doing her best not to let all the mean comments get to her because she knows that it goes with the territory but still, some of the things people have been saying are pretty awful - especially the stuff about her looks," a source told the newspaper.
"She's sensitive so obviously it hurts, but at the end of the day this role is a dream come true for her, she really wants to do an amazing job and prove all the haters wrong," Hollywood Life reported quoting an unnamed source.
Hunnam had been known to work out religiously for the roles of his other roles and is definitely in good shape. Hope the actor maintains his schedule for this role, too.
"After "Fight Club," the expectation of what a dude is supposed to look like when he takes is shirt off is just so high," Hunnam said in an earlier interview with Muscle & Fitness magazine.
"So I said, 'I'll try and make it happen.' So I shot 14-15 hours a day on "Sons [of Anarchy]" then I would go the gym for two-and-a-half hours every day after work," he added.
Fifty Shades of Grey will open in cinemas on August 1, 2014.
