Venice Film Festival at 70: Clooney, Johansson, Bullock, Cage, Dench and Coogan Strut Red Carpet
The great, the good and the glamorous of Hollywood have descended en masse on the 70th annual Venice Film Festival.
The milestone event saw the event's golden couple, Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, effortlessly charm fans and critics to promote their upcoming film, Gravity. Scarlett Johansson, promoting her surreal science-fiction vehicle, Under the Skin, stole the show in a Versace gown complete with a giant diamond engagement ring. Daniel Radcliffe was mobbed by fans while other stars such as Dakota Fanning, James Franco and Judi Dench also managed to snap up pictures with their fans before heading to their film premieres.
All eyes were on Scarlett Johansson as she walked onto the red carpet to premiere her new alien sci-fi drama “Under the Skin”. The 28 year old star wore a revealing Versace style dress and dazzled many with a giant engagement ring on her finger. Scarlett however denies reports that she’s engaged to boyfriend Romain Dauriac.

The 70th annual Venice Film Festival continued with many Hollywood stars premiering their latest films including George Clooney, Sandra Bullock, Daniel Radcliffe, Scarlett Johansson, Judi Dench and Dakota Fanning.

Dakota Fanning wore a deep V neckline navy dress by Ellie Saab for the premiere of her drama, Night Movies. The 19-year-old actress was joined by co-star Jesse Eisenberg on the red carpet. In the movie, they play eco-terrorists who have to deal with the consequences of their actions.
Fans had Franco fever and were thrilled to see the actor and director premiere two films at the Venice Film Festival. The first was Child of God, which depicts a violent man from 1950s Tennessee, while Palo Alto is taken from Franco's own book.
Making a comeback on the red carpet, Nicolas Cage was joined by his wife to promote his new film, Joe. The actor, who has had his own struggles with alcohol, plays a hard-drinking ex-con who protects a young boy while trying to maintain a degree of control over his own life.
Judi Dench and Steve Coogan
Judi Dench and Steve Coogan were described as a compelling double act in their film, Philomena. The pair have received much praise and are expected to be the frontrunners for the honorary Golden Lion award at Venice. The film, which is based upon a true story, follows the emotive journey of a shamed Irish woman in the 1950s who is forced to give up her son for adoption.
Tom Hardy’s one-man performance in Locke has been described as the best of his career and is said to show great depth, beauty and poise. The British heartthrob best known for his role as Batman’s nemesis, Bane, plays Welsh building site manager Ivan whose life unravels behind the wheel of a long late-night drive from Birmingham to London. Full focus is on Hardy for the 84 minutes as only the voices of his co-stars are heard by the audience.
Gabrielle Union and Dwayne Wade
Gabrielle Union had her NBA boyfriend Dwayne Wade by her side at the premiere of her short film, The Door. The film is a collaboration with designer house Miu Miu and stars Gabby as a woman finding herself and her style through the troubles of divorce and the depression that came with it.
