Set against the glamorous golden age of Formula One, "Rush" is Ron Howard's latest cinematic masterpiece that tells the story about Formula One's racing rivalry between Niki Lauda and James Hunt. The story covers racing's great period as the two rivals for the 1976 German Grand Prix championship which ended up with a catastrophic accident.
Ron Howard's new film.
Howard teams up once again with two-time Academy Award nominee writer Peter Morgan (The Queen) as he brings to life the drama and rivalry that surrounded the 1976 Formula One season. "Rush" is set to be released on September 13, 2013 and is scheduled to be shown this year at the prestigious Toronto International Film festival.
This upcoming 2013 British-German bio-pic is packed with high caliber ensemble of cast including Chris Hemsworth (Thor) as the brash and charming playboy Englishman, James Hunt; and Daniel Brühl (Inglorious Basterds) as the pragmatic and disciplined Austrian, Niki Lauda. Other cast includes Olivia Wilde (Tron: Legacy) as Suzy Miller and Marlene Knaus as Alexandra Maria Lara, Lauda's wife.
The "Beautiful Mind" director showcases the epic battle of the two rivals as he captures the intense competitiveness of the two elite racers whose personalities are both in the opposite ends of the spectrum. But the film is not just about the death-defying race but the unspoken honour between the two men as they face death every single time they get into their race cars but still willing to risk everything just to become the world champion.
Thanks to the superb performance of the leads and Anthony Dod Mantle's brilliant cinematography this film offers the undeniable thrill of taking risks by delivering it 200 miles per hour. The sound and score of the film was artfully combined to make the audience feel the thrill on each scenes, and with Ron Howard's cutting-edge technique the audience won't even know when practical photography ends and visual effects begins.
There are three major locations for the movie and was shot in locations around Germany, United States and Austria. The film features the former World War II airfield of Blackbushe Airport in Hampshire and Brands Hatch (kent) motor racing circuits in England as well as the racing circuits at the Nürburgring in Germany.
