Solange Knowles may not be as big as her super pop star sister Beyonce, but she has been making a name for herself by making good soulful R&B music for years. One proof of her influence is by being covered by Australian indie rock outfit Jagwar Ma.
Knowles was 17 years old when she got married to Daniel Smith who was then 19.
Jagwar Ma is composed of Sydney natives Gabriel Winterfield as frontman, Jono Ma who plays guitar, synths and drum machine; and Jack Freeman for bass and backing vocals.
The band covered Losing you from Solange's third album True for their BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge performance. Jagwar Ma recently released their debut album Howlin' and will go on a tour in UK in October. Their hit singles include The Throw and Man I need.
Oasis ex-lead guitarist Noel Gallagher is one of their fans, according to NME. Gallagher stated that whenever he meets with his former bandmates, they never mentioned anything about a reunion because they are "too busy talking about Jagwar Ma."
Jono Ma revealed that he feels pressured being a buzz band. “I was starting to get afraid because I never wanted the project to be this big hyped up thing," he said.
Going back to Solange, her "Crazy in Love" sister and hubby Jay Z attended the Made In America Festival to show their support for her performance.
The 26-year-old singer sang her hits, including Losing You, Looks Good With Trouble and Don't Let Me Down.
"It humbles me to see so many of y'all singing the old songs. I appreciate you following me through my evolution," she told the crowd.
