Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger is still hoping to sign another quality player to help them solidify their run in both the premier league and the Champions League before the transfer window closes on Sept 2 at 11 pm.
Managers were, in effect, given a little bit of leeway because Aug 31, the original deadline date, fell on a non-business day.
Wenger has made 2 signings which includes defensive midfielder Mathieu Flamini and striker Yaya Sanogo.
The manager is content with Flamini's performance, with his 48-minute stint, in a 1-0 win against Tottenham on Sunday.
"I said it was a no-brainer [to sign him], I am just sorry that he did not cost £25 million! Overall his performance was exceptional. He hasn't played since May but his performance was very convincing." Wenger told arsenal.com.
With less than 24 hours before the window closes, Wenger is keen to orchestrate a coup.
"I am not against spending money, but I want to add super quality to our squad. Tottenham got a lot of money for Bale, they have to invest it - I understand that. The need is different for us, we need one or two super players and we will try to add that. We have 24 more hours, so maybe we can surprise you. Maybe not - but I am confident."
Known for being thrifty, Wenger discussed about taking his time and not making impulsive decisions early on in the window.
"Yes, because it is a little bit like a domino game. Maybe something will happen in the last 24 hours, maybe not. It is very difficult to predict."
"I am ready to pay what we can afford, even if it is a bit over the market [value] and as long as it is not crazy. I am not against spending."
